Blog - Product Modification

January 18, 2022

Marathon Special Products will be making multiple changes to our FDS Series fused disconnect switches. These changes are planned to take place sometime in June and will only affect the part numbers noted below. The following changes will be made for the noted reasons:

  • Fuse Clip Plating will change from tin to nickel. This was done so that fuse brands with nickel plating have a better insertion/exertion force, and has no negative impact with the performance of other fuses with other plating.
  • Ferrule Approval for use with the noted wire range has now been evaluated by UL and will be covered on the datasheets. This allows customers to utilize ferrules on the full wire range with confirmation that there is no change to function or performance.
  • Torque Rating Change for the two largest wires. This only affects the #4 & #6 wire. This was due to additionally covering compact copper wire to comply to the CSA standard. Existing applications not using compact copper wire of this size are not affected. Your internal specifications and/or agency files may need to be updated to reflect this
    • Previous Wire Range Torque:
      • (2) #10 - #18 17.7 lbf-in
      • (1) #4 - 6 17.7 lbf-in
    • New Wire Range Torque:
      • (1-2) #10 - #18 17.7 lbf-in (additionally clarified number of wires to be used)
      • (1) #4 - 6 30.0 lbf-in
FDS Series Part Numbers Affected:
FDS30C1 FDS30C2 FDS30C3

This will be a running change with no variance to the part numbers or ratings.

It is estimated that products changes will occur sometime in June 2022, but could vary considerably depending on when inventories of the existing design are depleted.

Please feel free to email or call with any questions regarding this product modification.
